What is Reno?
The
Reno Seminar is known as Seminar
of the Decade an annual event that brings people together
for ceramic educational and fun in Reno, Nevada for over
twenty-four years.
The
January program is always held the first full weekend after New
Year’s Day. This class is devoted to general ceramic
education and has a broad general ceramic theme.
Our
Summer time program is held the first full weekend after the 4th
of July. Our theme is Holidays
throughout the Year presented each summer and has been a
wonderful event for over 13 years.
Both events are unique in their presentations; all ware, color,
written paper work, color photo’s of the pieces, lunch and one
dinner are included in the price of the Seminar. The
participant needs to bring a few general supplies, their own
brushes, a willingness to try new things and their humor.
The participant does have to pay for their accommodations at the
Peppermill Hotel and Casino and any additional meals. By
the way the food at the Peppermill is excellent.
We are pleased to announce that we have over forty per cent
return each year for both events and sixty per cent return for
one event a year. Many participants have been coming to
all of the events for over twenty-four years, with an occasional
missed year.
Three
years ago we started adding a special fourth day event.*
The David Hoff portion (Seminar of the Decade) is for three
days. The additional day is held the day before.
Our
guest instructors have included:
Jeanette McCall - Piping
Jeanette Gullikson – Spanish Colors

What
are Studio Seminars?
It is with great
pleasure and excitement to welcome you to these Seminars.
It is our hope that you will leave this classroom
further prepared and more comfortable teaching any of these
specialty classes.
Airbrushing
Airbrushing is a
unique, exciting and wonderful style to complete ceramic
projects. The class
being presented should help you teach dynamic and creative
airbrushed pieces. My goal is to help you understand how I teach a general
airbrush workshop and how to solve problems within a classroom
environment.
Please
feel free to ask as many questions as you wish. Having taught airbrushing for over twenty-five
years, I believe this method works and works easily for all
degrees of airbrushing skill. While working with the
airbrush, try different things and watch the varying results one
can achieve. Do not hesitate to experiment with medias,
color combinations and angles.
Brushstrokes
& Creative Design
These classes will offer you an easy to follow guide and lesson
plans that will make brushstrokes easier to complete and easier
for you to teach others.
Brushstrokes:
We will guide you through the various brushes commonly
used in brushwork with emphasis on ceramic decoration.
We will cover the following brushes during this short
period of time; the Liner, the Round, the Detail, the Shader,
the Dagger Liner and finally wrap up with the Filbert brushes.
We will explore the commonality and differences of brushes.
Share some easy tips in achieving specific
results with specific brushes.
Creative
Design: This is for the person who wants to improve
their basic artistic knowledge and correctly design their own
projects. Features simple drawing skills, examination of the
color wheel (one will be provided with the paper work) and basic
skills for building a unique and technically correct
design. We will be working with fired and non-fired
products.
As these classes
unfold be sure to ask questions, experiment
and listen to the approach of the instructor when helping
others. We want you
to leave with the knowledge that you can easily teach brushwork,
help others with design and be comfortable in putting together
just the right piece for you and or your students
